I could easily win an Academy Award or Best Vocals of the Year! I mean, I AM an expert and like Mary Kathryn Gallagher, "I AM A SUPERSTAR!"
But seriously, Country music makes me want to throw up. I was very disappointed in last nights award show and the only thing country I saw was Loretta Lynn! I know! Another sign of my getting old.
Country music. True Country music has lost it's vision.
I started losing my interest in country when Shania Twain came a board. She clearly wasn't and isn't Country. Neither is Fatih Hill, Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood. These are talented woman but not for Country.
It used to be that this type of great music was defined by blue jeans, rhinestones, cowboy hats, a huge belt buckle and men and women writing about things that really happened in their lives or in their surroundings. There was a clear distinction of what was Country and what wasn't. Now there is no distinction whatsoever.
When did Carrie Underwood, Kid Rock, Cheryl Crow (ugh!! horrible fake country voice)and even Hootie (whom I adore) become Country? I didn't hear one bit of country in Kid Rock's song last night. Carrie Underwood only sings about God and should be on the Gospel venue and Cheryl needs to pack it up!! lol...
Now I am not saying that every country artist has to be from a starving, abused, black eyed family, or from the coal mine. But they need to be more authentic and less Hollywood.
And what happened to the rough, tough, smelly, kick my damn woman to the curb, country men?
Now you have metrosexual, hair blown, spiky hair make up wearing, let's wear a lot of leather, artists that aren't really that great.
Now! Now! Yes, you do have a few like Toby Keith who are macho but he is still categorized in more a pop venue then country. And I am sorry but Kenny Chesney, aka, Kermit the Frog, is more on the Pop/Jimmy Buffet side of life and I don't see Kenny kicking someone's ass cuz his girl was flirting at the bar.
There's no doubt the Country music industry has been suffering for years and it's like they just plop talented, "we don't know where to put you" musicians in the Country spot and hope for gold. Case in point, Taylor Swift. She writes songs. She is cute. She is not country. She got lucky to be thrown into country when there were no real good artists around. Not hard to win many awards that way.
There are a lot of bands I can make an example of but The Band Perry cracks me up and its a perfect example of what I am talking about. I see absolutely no country in them. The lead females vocals are decent but WTF is standing next to her?

This picture is a prime example of where country doesn't really know where it's going. Both boys, (men, that's questionable) are in the 80's. Hair blown like Justin Bieber and have the gay pop look. If you look at their pictures on line they wear a lot of leather and try to look like rock stars and she wears a lot of corset type shirts, and it seems she's not quite sure what to wear. Is she goth? Is she a lady of the streets? Is this country dress? Where's the cowboy hats? Where's the dirty grungy shirt with dirt on it, where's the facial hair? Hell! Where's the beef? I think they need to be auditioning for Boy George or a Flock of Seagulls.
(Even the guy in the picture. On the left. Looks confused.)
Now I know, times change, I am getting old. I am used to George Jones, Hank Williams, Jr., Loretta Lynn and the Goldie Oldies. Hollywood has taken over. Sex sells and real authentic Country music is gone.
Now before I close this blog for today I must make fun of what I think is the WORST band in what they call Country music today. Now! I know I will get a lot of criticism, probably more so then my past posts but
RASCAL FLATS IS THE WORST COUNTRY BAND EVER!!!!!!!!

I swear every time I hear his voice he must only have one ball. The lead singers high pitched off tune voice makes me howl. I have tried to listen. To appreciate but just can't get there.
Now as I close. I was born in the 60's. I love the 70's, 80's and some of the 90's music. The music industry just stinks. I don't have a problem with any of these musicians. Let's just put them in their real place. Even with Rock, Rap, and all the others. I miss the good 'ole days and I don't think they are a coming back.
